Here is a fact that surprises newcomers: in Qimen, there is no randomness. Give two practitioners the same moment and the same place, and they will build the exact same chart — the same nine palaces, the same doors, stars, deities and stems, down to the last mark. Unlike a tarot draw or a coin toss, nothing is left to chance. And yet, hand that identical chart to two readers and you may hear two different answers. If the chart is the same, where does the disagreement come from?

The short answer: the chart is data; the reading is judgment. A Qimen chart is like an X-ray — an objective record of what is there. Nobody concludes that anatomy is fake because two doctors disagree on a diagnosis.
