You can read every door, star, deity and stem in a palace correctly and still get the answer wrong — if you miss the two markers that sit quietly on top of it. Void tells you a palace looks full but is hollow: the substance isn't really there. The Horse Star tells you a palace is about to move: whatever sits there is packing its bags. Neither is a symbol you read in the palace; both are conditions that change how everything else in the palace should be read.

Both come from the branch layer of the chart — the twelve earthly branches attached to the day's ten-day cycle. Void is calculated from which two branches are "left over" and thus empty in the current cycle; the Horse Star is calculated from the day or hour branch and always points to one of four "movement" branches. You do not have to compute them by hand — QimenIt marks both on every chart — but you do need to know what they mean, because they can flip a good-looking palace into a warning, or a stuck one into a departure.

Void: the Hollow Palace空亡：空掉的宫

Void (kōng wáng — literally "empty and gone") marks a palace whose energy is present in form but absent in substance. The image is a stage set: the facade is there, but there is nothing behind it. When something you care about — the used-god for your question — sits in a void palace, the reading is not "bad," it is "not yet real." The matter is delayed, hollow, insincere, or not fully arrived.

空亡（字面即"空而亡"）标记的，是一个能量有其形、无其实的宫。那画面像一处布景：门面立着，背后却空无一物。当你所问之事的用神临空亡时，这不是"凶"，而是"尚未成真"。事情是延迟的、空的、不诚的，或还没有完全到位。

What void means depends on what you want. If you were hoping the matter is solid, void is a caution: the promise may be empty, the person non-committal, the deal not ready. If you were worried about a threat, void can be a relief: the danger sitting in a void palace may never materialize. And void is not permanent. A void "fills" when time catches up to it — when the empty branch comes around in the calendar (填实, filling) or is struck by its opposite branch (冲实, clashing to fullness). That filling moment is often exactly when a stalled matter finally becomes real.

Horse Star: the Mover驿马：发动者

The Horse Star (yì mǎ — the "post horse" of the old courier relays) is the chart's engine of movement. Where it lands, energy travels: journeys, relocations, job changes, shipments, news arriving, momentum picking up. A palace carrying the Horse Star is restless — whatever sits there wants to go somewhere, change state, or move fast.

驿马（古代驿站接力传递的"驿马"）是盘面上的移动引擎。它落在哪里，能量就往哪里走：出行、搬迁、换工作、发货、消息传来、势头起来。带着驿马的宫是躁动的——宫内的符号想去某处、想变、想快。

Like void, the Horse Star is good or bad only relative to your question. If you want movement — a move that needs to happen, a stalled process that needs momentum, travel, a fresh start — the Horse Star on your used-god is a green flag: the wheels are turning. If you want stability — a relationship to settle, a job to stay put, an agreement to hold — the Horse Star is a caution: this thing is inclined to leave or shift. The same marker reads "at last, it moves" or "careful, it won't sit still," depending entirely on what you're asking for.

When the Two Meet两者相遇时

The most interesting case is a palace that is both void and carrying the Horse Star. On its own, void says "hollow, not yet." But the classical phrase for void plus horse is "empty, yet not empty" (空而不空): the Horse Star reactivates a void. The matter that looked absent is not dead — it is latent movement about to break loose. A void with a horse is less "nothing here" and more "nothing here yet, and it's coming fast." Practitioners read this as change stirring under a still surface: the deal that seemed dead suddenly revives, the person who went quiet suddenly moves.

The reverse pairing matters too. A palace with the Horse Star but no void is straightforward, active movement — trust the momentum. A palace that is void with no horse is genuinely dormant — expect real delay, and mark the filling date rather than hoping for early motion. Reading the two markers together, rather than one at a time, is what separates a flat reading from an accurate one.
