People come to a partnership chart wanting a verdict on someone's character. That is the wrong first question. Qimen reads the alliance before it reads either party, and the symbol that carries it is Six Harmony. In classical practice Six Harmony is the amiable deity of the east, the one that governs matchmaking, brokerage and trade; the direction it occupies is the one favourable for negotiating and dealing. There is a second track that reads the same question from the plates: take the Earth-plate Day Stem as your side and the Heaven-plate stem sitting on it as your partner. Heaven generating Earth favours you; Earth generating Heaven favours them; harmony means fair. If the two control each other, the partnership tends not to form, and even when it does it runs rough.

A partnership can be warm, fair and still not worth signing, because getting along and getting paid are separate readings. The second one lives in Life Door, the shared interest. Read it against your own palace, and against the capital in the venture.

A short list of patterns says the deal won't come together, or won't survive if it does. Any one of them is enough to slow down. Two of them are the ones people ask about when they say “can I trust them”: a party carrying Dark Warrior or Serpent is the party that changes their mind and doesn't hold to what they said.

The specific signal is a party carrying Dark Warrior or Serpent: that side is the one prone to changing its mind, and what they promise won't necessarily stand. If Six Harmony, the alliance itself, is entombed or on Void, classical practice reads deceit somewhere in the arrangement. That is about the deal in front of you, not about who they are as a person.

Day and Hour sharing a palace often means the two of you have worked together before. Whether it's favourable depends on what else sits there: with no clash pattern, the partnership generally comes together; with a union pattern it's better still; with a clash pattern (冲格) the collaboration goes badly. Sharing a palace shows closeness, and closeness cuts both ways.
日时同宫，往往说明你们以前就合作过。好不好，要看同宫里还有什么：不遇冲格，合作一般能成；逢合格，则更好；遇冲格，合作不好。同宫说明的是"近"，而近本身是双面的。
The chart looks bad. Should I just walk away?盘看着不好，是不是直接算了？
It depends which of the two negative verdicts you're looking at, because they call for opposite things. A verdict of hold (宜缓) means the terms aren't ripe rather than the person is wrong; the chart shows where the sticking point sits, and the usual move is to renegotiate the split or the roles. A verdict of stop (宜止) means the arrangement itself has a poor road ahead; there, stepping back is prudence rather than defeat. Reading them as the same thing is how people either walk away from a workable deal or sign a bad one.
